Can I wash my Hottle cover?

With the exception of the Bite Resistant Pet Hottle all of our covers are machine washable. To clean your Bite Resistant Pet Hottle, we recommend wiping with a wet cloth and a little cool-temperature soapy water.  To clean your Classic, Hot Water Bottle Shape and BackWrap Covers we recommend a gentle, cool-temperature wash (cold to a max 100F) with like colors.  To clean your Cuddle Collection (bunny, lamb and teddy pj / body warmers) please follow the washing instructions on inside tag.

Why do you say Hottles are safer than other heat pads?

Hottle is not a gel pack. Gel packs are known to explode and cause potentially fatal burns. These burns can either be temperature or chemical. Hottle is not a wheat pack. Wheat and other grain filled packs have started fatal fires. This is because the grains within the wheat pack continue to heat up after being removed from the microwave and can begin smoldering. As an added bonus because Hottle contains no grains or seeds it will not mold or rot. Hottle is not a hot water bottle. Hot water bottles are known to cause burns, either from spills during filling or due to the rubber splitting and boiling water spilling onto skin and clothes. Hottles are known as Hotties in the UK and have been around since 1996. In all that time we’ve never heard of any incident where one of our Hottles has caused harm to a user. We designed Hottles because we were concerned about rising incidences of injuries and even deaths caused by exploding heat and wheat packs catching on fire.

What if my Hottle bursts?

Your Hottle is designed to burst harmlessly in the microwave if it is significantly overheated. It will pop and release some water content. This is a built in feature designed to keep you safe. This safety feature also prevents Hottle reaching dangerous temperatures and pressures. Hottle will not explode or burst violently if overheated. As Hottle contains no toxic gels or seeds there is no danger of it catching fire or causing burns. If you overheat Hottle and it pops, leave it in microwave for at least ten minutes before lifting it out. Please do not re-use overheated / popped Hottles. Please do not re-use popped Hottles. If your Hottle pops, you can purchase replacement cores here. We have been making Hottles in the UK since 1996 with no injuries or violent explosions. How do I reheat my Hottle?

To re-heat your Hottle before it has cooled back to room temperature: Remove the fabric cover if it prevents your Hottle rotating freely in the microwave 1. Heat in your microwave for 15-seconds 2. Check temperature of your Hottie 3. Repeat steps 2 & 3 until your Hottle is the appropriate temperature for you Note: Re-heating your Hottle heat pack for longer than recommended time may damage your Hottle. Many of our customers have two heat packs and simply heat their second heat pack instead of re-heating the recently used heat pack. This helps prevent accidental overheating and damage to your Hottle.

How do I heat my Hottle?

Heating times are written on your thermal core and on the instruction leaflet. Simply remove the fabric cover and match the strength of your microwave to the heating time. Please note, the times listed assume your Hottle is at room temperature (approx. 70F) - if it is warmer, we recommend heating in 15 second increments and testing to avoid overheating. If it is colder that room temperature, heat for the recommended time, test, and heat further in 15 second increments if necessary.

What is a Hottle and how does it work?

Hottles are heat pads uniquely designed for safety and to retain heat longer. Hottle heat pads contains water absorbed onto a specialized plant based fabric. When microwaved, the water heats up. Because there are no water currents within the heat pad, the transfer of energy from center to the edge of your Hottle takes longer. This is why a Hottle stays warmer longer than many alternative products on the market.
